Minsung Son (b. 2001, Seoul) is an architectural designer and independent practitioner working across photography, filmmaking, design, and research. He has graduated from the University of Cambridge with first class honours, and is currently an M.Arch candidate at Columbia University GSAPP. He has worked at architectural practices including Kengo Kuma & Associates (Tokyo) and Allies and Morrison (London).
In both theory and practice, Minsung is interested in vernacular spatial practices and how they represent decolonised, local forms of modernism. His undergraduate dissertation interrogating this area, Nation Building in the Balcony: A Postcolonial Critique of Resident-led Extensions to South Korean Modern Housing, has unanimously won the David Roberts Memorial Prize for best dissertation at the University of Cambridge Department of Architecture.
Minsung is one of nine members of New Architecture Writers, a competitive Architecture Foundation programme cultivating emerging critics of architecture and the city.
Minsung is currently based in Seoul and New York, and is open to commissions for photography, filmmaking, writing, or other work.
